So I've heard that there is a way to get streaming radio from the web browser, has anyone heard of this before? I tried to get the stream going on NPR's web site, and on the Sirius site too, but with no luck. It said that the browser would not support it.

Check the website! Any station that has a streaming online feed works.

Yes, the service is free. But beware of the fact that your mobile operator might charge you for the data you download, if you don't have a "unlimited download" or "flat fee" account.
