    Greetings,

As I anxiously count down the days until my Sprint contact expires and I am free from what seems to be an eternal damnation, I have reached quite the dilemma...

I am going to be taking my business to Alltel, who currently offers two BlackBerrys of interest. The Pearl 8130 and the 8830 World Edition. Now I am hoping that Alltel picks up the Curve (preferably by March 21st 2008 in a Perfect World since my current contract expires then) however if Alltel does not, I'm torn between which of the two phones to get.

I have used the Compare lists to see what one has that the other doesn't, but some of the terminology is foreign to me since I have yet to own a SmartPhone of any kind.

    Any added insight is welcome.

I started with the Pearl but it was too small and did not like the Keyboard. I exchanged for the 8820 and love it. Bigger screen and full keyboard. Curve is also great if Alltell comes out with it in time.

agreed, tho i'm partial to my pearl. i like the smaller size, and typing w/ suretype is great for me, so not having qwerty is no problem. the camera is nice, too. don't stress too much, you'll be happy regardless!

and welcome to cb. be sure to let us know what you decide.

Is having a camera important? I believe that only the Pearl has a camera. I could be wrong.

I just canceled from Sprint with no ETF because they changed some of the fees they are collecting. It was going to save me money (like a dollar) but I wanted to switch to AT&T and the Curve. Got it done but not without them trying everything they could to keep me as a customer. I was with Sprint for about 4 years, and couldn't be happier that I left them.

Welcome to CrackBerry, by the way.

I did the same thing you did Emptydarkone. I managed to get out of Sprint without ETF because of the changes in pricing and they didn't fight me either. I guess once word got out, everyone jumped ship! I went with TMO and got my first Berry and couldn't be happier.

    Oh yeah, WELCOME TO CB.

    Thanks for the warm welcomes.

The contract has expired and I'm thinking beginning of April from making the big jump. Seems Alltel operates in CDMA phones and the Curve will not be made in that format(?) so it's down to the Pearl or 8830. I think I'm going to go Pearl until I get a Laptop again and when I do, I'll grab get an 8830 for Tethered Internet.

Opinions on that scheme are welcome.

Why do you want the Pearl? They are two very different devices which look similar on paper. Personally I would go for the 8830 since a full QWERTY keyboard can't be beat. I've spent time with them all (and yes, got really good at SureType) and settled finally on a Curve 8320. The closest you'll get right now is the 8830.

    Good luck, and welcome!

Welcome 2 CB. Keep in mind that the 8830 has both GPS & WiFi. The 8130, only has GPS (I believe.) Also are you comfortable with SureType. The 8830 has the GSM bands for roaming. The 8830 is also a bit heavier.

It's your world, your choice. Either way, great deicision & Welcome!
