Hi all. I have a BB 8700c which I have unlocked to not only work w/ it's original carrier of Cingular, (Now AT&T), but my T-Mobile. I currently have OS vers 4.2.1.107. I like to have the newest and best, (when it makes sense). I am just wondering if I should upgrade to the newest OS or not. I have read through some posts and see that really there isn't usually a big change. Fonts, some apps, nothing big and major though. If I was to upgrade to the newest OS what is it?

The thing is I don't have the browser and no GPS though GPS appears in Options. I'm sure thats a carrier thing though. Just really looking to squeeze everyhting I can outta my BB.

I would upgrade to the latest version for your device and judge for yourself. You can always downgrade. The site has plenty of "How-To" links and members that are williing to help if you get stuck on a process. Few links in my sig. Good Luck

If you do an upgrade, do it from your carrier's website. There might be a compatibility issue if you download the wrong OS.

Hmmm....I think I will. Thanks. The version I have now I got from blackberry.com, not T-mobile and its a bit "newer" than the one they offer and I haven't had any probs. So my minds made up

Uhm. so whats the newest BB OS?

Just be careful when you do. Don't wanna nuke your berry. Be sure to follow all the steps.

Look at the posts on the forums for upgrade instructions and follow them. I did a first time upgrade this weekend and it was quick easy and painless because of the detailed instructions found on the forums.

My 8310 is now cleaner, leaner and meaner

There is a big improvement from 4.2.1 to 4.5 OS. I have 4.5.0.81 stickied in the 8700 forum with install instructions.

I have seen those stickies, but i notice they are for BB in another geographic area like Asia or Australia. Will that upgrade, though it is for another country, work for me? I live in the USA.

They definitely work in the USA. You just have to get rid of the vendor.xml before you use them. Check out BMC's post and his sig for the proper upgrade process. That will explain it a little better. You really cannot go wrong following that.
