    Hello everyone,

I just got my first BB 5 hours ago and the thrill is just setting in

Anyways, I just have a quick question... If the signal says "edge" does that mean that I am not using data?

The reason I ask is because I currently decided not to go with the data plan, but I want to make sure I don't get unnecessary charges to my account by using services that I don't want to pay for.

I guess a follow-up question would be: is there a way to outright disable connections that require a data plan?

Lowercase edge means you are in an area that has EDGE service, but you do not have provisioning (a data plan) to use the service.

I don't think you will use data if you don't chat or use a browser. My son has a BB w/o a data plan and his edge is lowercase. Oh and hello and welcome to CB.

Welcome! A word to the wise, the bis add on is priceless. A berry without a data plan is really just an expensive phone.
