i have a curve from sprint. is there anyway to set ur phone to notify me by flashing across the screen like the old blackberry's of an email or txt msg or any kind of msg while im on the phone or while im in another app.

Yes, there is an application you can buy called BB Alerts. You can set different color LED's for what notification you want...
