    im not able to receive or send text messages. on my screen it says "no messages". and in the text message screen i have no signal bars, but my internet is working and the rest of the features are working on the phone blackberry pearl 8100

    no i have not tried to take the battery out or call AT&T i was trying to avoid calling AT&T

    Well, why don't you try both those options. Its likely a network issue, which you must resolve via your carrier.
