    Hello Crackberry People.

I have been looking on this site for a few weeks now as im looking for a new phone and a blackberry curve is one of my options.

    I currently have a sony erricson w580i.

    im in the uk too.

ive seen many threads regarding this very same question so hope u dont mind if i ask again. just wanted some feedback of my own.

I'm basically undecided whether to get a blackberry or not. reason's being that i wont use it for Wap/Email/ any kind of business use.

i dont need a decent camera or a decent mp3 player as i have them seperate. I have used a blackberry 8800 a few times and have loved it because of the qwerty keypad.

it wouldnt cost me any extra than a normal phone to get a bb because they are all free on my contract.

i like the look of the iphone's but once again i wont be using it for mp3, camera or internet.

do i get a bb or not? just to be used as a regular phone with an awsome qwerty keypad??

    please help.

    Joel

If you will be getting the phone free on a contract I assume you do not intend to get the blackberry internet tariff added to your contract if you intend to use it as a phone only.

I don't see why not if you like the device and it will not cost you anything extra but without a blackberry tariff you will not get mms messages unless your network enables it.

It has to be said though that a BB with a data plan gives you a much richer blackberry experience than one without a data plan.

    Good luck with your decision.

I would say as most would, blackberry's are just the best BUT if your not going to take FULL advantage with a decent data plan then I would't bother personally. But if you love the qwerty keyboard that much hey why not!!

    thanks for the quick response.

i can apprieciate that getting a data plan will let you do alot more with the bb but as i wouldnt be using the extra's i feel as if it would be a waste of money.

Can i use the wifi at home without a data plan?

Is it good as a general phone? My reason for qwerty is my main use for a phone is texting.

A BB without a data plan is a regular querty phone with PDA capability. If you are looking to have the ability to use your phone as a PDA as well I think you will be pleased with getting one. There is not nearly as much free software as with palmOS (not sure about windows mobile), but when it comes to purchased software it appears there is just as wide a selection as any other PDA platform.

Personally there are only 4 apps I use right now that use data. Web browser, viigo (RSS feeds), GPS nav (sprint and google maps), and email. There are other apps that use data but there is plenty of stuff you can do with a BB that doesn't use data. I find it very handy to have access to the internet on the go and have an email away from home. So to me spending a little extra for data is not a big deal.

You can always see if you can get a 1 month trial or pay for 1 month abd see if it is something you want. And if you find you don't really want or need data then you can still use the BB for all the other stuff you can do with it.

I think to get the BB free on orange you may need dolphin package but am not 100% sure.

BtW I saw your other post & yes you do need the data plan to do pin messages or use BB messenger.

Oranges BIS tariffs start at 11.75 for 12 months, 7.50 for 18 months & 6 for 24 months so its not too expensive.

    after looking here

    shop.orange.co.uk/shop/yourplan/buildyourplan/sbemailonly

i cant understand what the diff is between.

the top one seems to have unlimited data plus talk but is cheaper than unlimited data with no talk.

if so and i think my tarriff is 30 a month then 37 is only 2 dearer than my dolphin 35 tarriff plus i get unlimited data.

i will ask in the shop when taking out the contract. Im sure i'll get some freebies.

    and Hi yogi.

thanks for all the help, sorry ive asked so many questions which im sure you've all heard thousands of times.

if i do get it and decide not to go with data it wouldnt be a big deal to me because it would just be like using my current phone but with the qwerty which i've wanted ever since using a BB.

No matter how you use it. You can't go wrong with a BB. The organization features alone make it worth it. Even without a data plan.
