New Blackberry Storm
Hello all!
This is my first post and I would like to say hello to all of you.
I was able to get a Blackberry Storm yesterday at the local Verizon Wireless Store. It's also my first Blackberry. I got there about 11 am and the guy at the door told me that there were 12 left. They had 50 to start with and then was able to get 10 more at midmorning. By the time, I completed the purchase, they were out.
Now, the fun part is figuring out how to use this thing. I have a Mac was wondering how to get the Storm connected to it. I already know that the software that came in the box will not work.
What do I need to do to get connected to the Mac?

I've read that MAC compatible BB DM software hasn't been released yet, or at least for the 8330.
Perhaps one of our other addicts has an update on BB MAC DM.

Welcome to CB blackberryking2009! For fewer pixels than the "go read the 101 thread" I will happily share with you how I maintain my BB 8830 on my Macbook...
1 - Download PocketMac for Blackberry. It is free. The same software will very likely work for the Storm.
2 - Using google search it is easy to find the Verizon email setup page for BIS. BIS is the server RIM has set up to push our email to us. Set up your email on the BIS server, either from a desktop browser or from your Storm and you should start seeing emails pushed to your Storm within minutes.
3 - If you have contacts stored in address (the mac address book) they can be sent over to your storm when you sync using pocketmac. If you have calendar events in iCal, they will sync too.
4 - Memos can sync to stickies (freeware, it's what I use) and Tasks can sync to iCal.
5 - If you decide to try any 3rd party apps, I suggest you get them through the new apps store on the Storm. I don't suggest you download stuff and sync it to your Storm, but if you can't stand it and decide you must install something, this can be handled by PocketMac as well.
If you decide PocketMac doesn't cut it, there is Missing Sync from MarkSpace. However, there is no option available to fully back up your Blackberry on a Mac. For this reason, I downloaded the PC desktop app (also free) on my PC at work and backed everything up to that machine. If disaster strikes, I could recover using the backup on my work machine. But I'd rather simply sync everything back over from my Macbook. I don't really care that much about the handful of 3rd party apps I have. They are mostly games and I don't care about high scores, especially when mine are all so low ;).
BTW, I do suggest you read the BB 101 thread here. It is an excellent source of information. You only need to get about half way through the "lectures" to have your BB up and running nicely. After you complete BB 101 here at CB, head over to Blackberry.com and take BB 101 over there. It's a flash presentation and I learned a thing or two over there as well.
