To pop/smtp emails, surf the internet and text message, do I have to sign up for a Blackberry data service? (AT&T) Or can I use the standard data plans.

    What is the difference?

Can I only use blackberry email?

What is fastest web browser for 8310. Does it come with one? Or can I load something like Opera. My 8310 comes in 2 days so I don't know.

Any "must have" applications. I'm sure there's a thread already on this...

    Yes, BIS is a must-have & it's not a bad deal for $30/month.

Opera Mini is a great browser for your BB.

A few other apps - GoogleMaps, JiveTalk or IM+, InfoSpace, or Beyond411

Welcome & enjoy your new BB!

Thanks for all the feedback and keep it coming.
I didn't mean no data plan, I was wondering about the difference between the BB data plans and the standard data plans that AT&T offer, like the one I currently use with my Treo.

As Blueberry stated, you must have a BB data plan. A standard data plan that you use for your Treo will not work.

Thanks everyone. Unlimited data and 200 messages for $19.99/month called Media Max.
BB unlimited data with no messages for $30, or with messaging is $50.
So the BB plans are more expensive.
