Should the PC be able to see the Media card as a removable drive? Or only available from the Desktop Manger?
My pc tells me no card, but the Desktop Manger Media Card works OK

Yes! But, when you connect the device, you should get a message on the device asking you to confirm you want to enable 'mass storage'. Select Yes, then you should be able to double click on My Computer from your pc, and see a new drive letter, i.e. the memory card on your 8800.
If that fails, on the device go to options / media card / check the settings there...
