My 7100v has today stopped working as a phone. All email / text is ok and browser works, however if the phone rings I can see who the caller is but I can't hear them and they can't hear me.

Any ideas on this? Have tried hard and soft resets but no good.

In the meantime the sim has been put into an old mobile!! (I'm in the office today so the emails are ok into my desktop inbox)

However I'd like to copy my contacts in the phone from the blackberry. Any ideas on a simple way to do this?

    Any help greatly received!

I take it you've already done a 'battery pull'? I know you said soft reset, I was just making sure we're on the same page...

Did the unit get dropped, or water fell on it? You might have to do a 'hard reset'...

    Yep, tried the battery pull.

No water or drop has occured, seems very strange that the speaker / mic have both gone.

    Thanks for the reply.

What device is it? Does it have a speaker phone, if yes, does that work?

Nope speaker phone bit doesn't work either. Its like the phone function (apart from the ringing for incoming calls) has just given up.

Also not being able to use contact list on donor phone is hurting....

What kind of backup/donor phone are you using? The easiest way to get contacts off your BB is to perform a backup, or you can sync to Outlook. Both can be accomplished with Desktop Manager. Now getting the contacts to your other phone is another issue. If it's a BB then its easy, but if it's something else, then it could be more difficult.

    Also, Welcome to Crackberry.com!

Yep, thats the issue there. Donor phone is a 61 series Nokia (very old) but still working as a phone.

The phone provider will send a replacement 7100v but that will tie me into another 12 months with that phone and was thinking about trying something new. But that's one for another post.

I just can't believe that all the phone functions have physically packed up all at once. There must be something I've either done or a 'system' fault. Could just be hopefully thinking on my part.

Thanks again for the support on this. And thanks for the welcome, am hugely impressed with this.

Well, you could always try reloading a new OS and see if that makes any difference.

I found this on the Vodafone UK download site:

    Software For BlackBerry 7100v(TM)

    BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.1.0.314 (Multilanguage)

    Package Version:
    Consisting of:
    Software Platform:

Is Vodafone UK your carrier, or if not who is? I'll be happy to provide you instructions once I know who your carrier is.

Then here is what you can try first:

Open Desktop Manager, connect your 7100v, and perform a backup. Then close desktop manager and disconnect your 7100v when the backup is complete.

Go to the Vodafone website and download the 7100v software:

Install the software on your PC. Then, just to play it safe, find and delete the Vendor.xml file. It should be here:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

Now startup Desktop Manager and connect your 7100v. You should be prompted to upgrade.

Give this a shot and let us know what happens.

A shame there is not software like 'Remote BlackBerry', that allows support techs like me to remote into a users BlackBerry and resolve issues...

    I know, am dreaming, but...

You could always design such a program and then start making big bucks from selling it.

Have tried the suggested solution. Sadly the handset seems to now have rejected any form of connection from the desktop.

We are going with vodafone's replacement offer and a new shiny handset will be here tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all your help and support on this query. It is really good to know there are people prepared to help out there.

    Thanks again

Straight replacement for a 7100v as still in 12 month contract.

We will be changing it as soon as the 12 months are up.

Not sure what to but will have a look on here at the handset boards for reviews over the coming months.

Not being funny but on eBay you can pick up BB handsets at a good price....I willbe upgrading in a couple of months and have an Unlocked 8700V, which i might consider letting go....

Anyway, if you would be interested please PM me, or if you do want any other handset, i can source them quite easily...

    Glad you problem is resolved.....
