It's used, so I'm wondering, when it gets here should I do some kind of reset on it? How do I do that?

I'd like to get it back to the factory default setup if possible.

Should I update it's software?

It's an 8800, and I'm on AT&T.

You can wipe the device of all the previous user's data by going to Options >Security Options >General Settings >menu key "Wipe Handheld."

Beyond that, lets wait until you get the device to see if it needs a software update.

I've wiped everything, and made a call to test it. AT&T doesn't want to let me change my account service atm.. but that's another issue.

I was trying to add a blackberry data plan to my account, but I'm on a government account and it has a password I have to give the ATT rep before they will help me. I got the password and they let me add the data plan just now.

well, I think I have my email setup. I logged into BIS and setup an account, added my gmail account and a filter for sent items.

test message just arrived!

I also installed Opera Mini and got that working.

This thing is sweet!

now for some google maps and BBweather. *rubs hands together gleefully*

Don't know if anyone has tried this but WXSYS (do a google search) has a free app for BB that does weather. They also have a free one for marine weather as well. If anybody tries them out, let me know if they are any good.
