So I just got my blackberry pearl 8110 and I have a few questions...

    1. What does it mean when it has the GSM/gprs in the corner instead of edge?

    2. How do I get rid of the dialing noise so it doesn't do it everytime I hit send?

    3. Do you need a data plan to use the messenger?

    4. Can my media card be used for songs, pictures, and videos or do I need separate ones for each?

THANK YOU so much for any help!

One media card is all you need. When it is formatted for use in your Pearl, sub directories are created for different media types. They are for your convenience, Media Player will find them no matter where you put them.

Welcome to Crackberry! Here are some answers for you:

So I just got my blackberry pearl 8110 and I have a few questions...

    1. What does it mean when it has the GSM/gprs in the corner instead of edge?

This is basically your signal strength.

    2. How do I get rid of the dialing noise so it doesn't do it everytime I hit send?

Dialing noise? You mean the keypad tones? You can't.

    3. Do you need a data plan to use the messenger?

    Yes.

    4. Can my media card be used for songs, pictures, and videos or do I need separate ones for each?

You can store any and all media on your card. How large your card is, however, IE 1G 4G etc, will determine how much media you can store.

THANK YOU so much for any help!

Here's what I was able to dig up for you:
    question 1:
see web page here: fairly detailed - it's all about signal status.
Troubleshooting the device status on BlackBerry (GSM) - PinStack.com Forums

    question 2:
Goto Options>Screen/Keyboard>Key Tone. select "on" or "off".

    question 3:
    Absolutely, Yes.

    question 4:
Yup- you can fit it all on one- and as jenaywins mentions, bigger is better.
I'd try and stuff as large a memory capacity in as I could. They're fairly cheap too.
