I got an 8310 a few days ago and don't see this option anywhere in my Options screen. In fact, "General options" isn't there at all.

you have to go to the Phone first! (hit Green Button)

Mine is set to "no" but the speed dial is still enabled. I can't dial from the home screen but can still speed dial. Any thoughts

Hit Green, go to Options, go to "See Speed Dial List", and then remove all of your friends from the list.

OK like the guy said above, you can go to Green Button > Options button (spotted button) >View Speed Dial list, and then remove your friends.

BUT when you pocket dial - your friends get added right back. and problem persists.
SO I was frustrated and came up with a work around.

I created a dummy name in my address book called "Speed" with a fake 3 digit phone number (123)

Then I assigned every speed dial to Speed.

So when i pocket speed dial the call goes nowhere!
