BB's are great for emailing, texting, surfing the internet. A great way to stay in touch with your friends & the world.
As for the plan on VZW, depending on what you will be doing, the $30 per month data plan & the $10 text plan is a good way to go.
Hope this helps......
Welcome to the addiction & enjoy your stay!!!
Welcome to Crackberry , I'm sure you'll be happy when the Curve arrives.
A good starting point would be to take a look at the 101 lecture series. A load of really useful info there.

youll love your bb! welcome to cb!
Once you get a BB you will not go back to a normal phone.
Welcome to CB.
I just got my curve last week. I can email, I can use a bunch of different email addys, as many as I want, it seems, I can surf, there's lots of mobile apps to use such as teh google and teh yahoo. And SMS (text messaging) plus MMS (msgs with media).
I have the same Verizon plan as gritmaster, $30 data usage but only $5 of texting because I don't text that much, I email more.
I get my regular email box on the Crackberry and can read & delete, plus if you want it can delete on your mail server as well if you're done with the message.
Not sure what you want to do so I don't know what else to tell you. I installed an app called BB Media Sync that syncs my iTunes playlists with the BB and installed all my iTunes songs that weren't purchased from them (because they all have DRM, boo) onto my media card. So now my Curve is also an MP3 player.
Oh, I thought this was pretty cool - you don't really need to buy ringtones. You can use ANY music file as your ringtone. So if you like a song intro, set it up as a ringtone. If you want something in the middle of a song you'd have to edit the MP3/MP4 file and create your own ringtone but you don't have to use ringtone format (which is MIDI). It can play MP4 as the ringtone, I think that is so cool. I set up a bunch of different tunes for my different contacts. With my old Motorola phone I would have to use a ringtone editor to do what I could do easily on the BB.
You are going to love the curve. I have had mine since the beginning of July, and I absolutely love it. Coming from a WM phone, this was a breathe of fresh air. I can email, text, IM, surf the web, listen to music, and so much more!
You're gonna love it!

welcome to bb!
Great advice! Thank you for the tip about BB media sync. I'll have to research this today, because I REALLY want some freakin music on my BB.

Oh you are quite welcome! I hope you enjoy it. I found it on the BB site itself but I am sure teh Google will help you locate it. Right now my ringtone is the title track from the Repo Man album, by Iggy Pop.
