Hey guys! I'm needing some help!

I'm hopping across the pond to New York next month ! Anyways I'm on Orange UK with an unlimited data plan, but then I found out that more internet chargers would apply when I'm over there, (I kind of thought there was a orange USA or whatever silly me!) its going to happen as I have push email and I love to stay in touch with people (god bless the BB!) Looking into Orange, they want to charge 8 per KB used! I don't really mind paying that but I like to know my options. I've heard you can turn off gprs or whatever and use wifi? Does wifi have restrictions compared to gprs? Apart from you have to be in a hotspot area. Or simply can I just stop my push email without deleting or messing around with my account?

    Thank you!

Are you sure it's not 8/MB? 8/KB is extortionate.

Why not just leave you phone at home?

Or go on some PAYG contract over there with you phone.

Fully agree with this - even with data access switched off, you cannot guarantee that your BB will not access data - there was a case last year where someone came over from the US to the UK with a G1, switched everything off, and still wound up with a bill for more than $100. Considering how far behind Orange are when it comes to data plans, you would be best served, if you don't want data at all, by getting a PAYG phone over there, or buying a cheap Orange phone over here and slapping your sim card in it if you want to use your own plan.
