    Question in the title.

If the phone has a clean ESN, would BBM be an easy, standard setup?

If the esn is clean AND you have a data plan, you shouldn't have a problem using bbm

Make sure its a BLACKBERRY Data Plan. You've got to have either BIS or BES for it to work. Also, make sure you're not buying some Chinese replica, I've been seeing a few disappointed buyers around here lately.
