Alright, so ive just downloaded BBM 5.0 and im not really sure how to use it...Whats the groups and adding a contact for. How does all that work? or better yet, how does the whole BBM 5.0 work? If someone could take the time out to explain it to me, that would be great !

Im not really lookin' to get flamed either so disregard this thread if you don't like it. Thanks

Contacts are people you talk to on Blackberry Messenger. Groups are groups of contacts. Hope that clears it up for you chief.

well i used the old bbm, that was fine. Im just saying like adding from sms and stuff. If i was to add someone from SMS then wouldnt it be just the same as the messages folder? and whats the use of group of contacts. I dont believe that was in the old bbm right

While I understand the concept of BBM. What is the advantage of using BBM these days over sms/mms/email? especially w/ threaded sms in OS 5.0, what is so much better than BBM?

correct. sms/mms requires a text plan. if you have limited texts, using bbm can help. Pretty much everyone has a data plan, and bbm is included in that data.

i dunno if that is that much of be benefit, text msg plan on a regular phone is less expensive than a data plan. i think BBM on older devices was very efficient sending msgs via BB servers, but these days, SMS and BBM really dont have too much of the difference other than the proprietary nature. It's almost as if the iPhone had something called iMessenger that can only send msgs to apple devices.

If you use BBM to message non BlackBerry contacts, it uses SMS just like texting. It uses data only for BlackBerry to BlackBerry messaging.

Groups are not the same as Categories (Family, Friends, etc). Groups are pretty much like chat rooms and all contacts in a group see all messages sent.
