Apple and Google would absolutely have an interest in dealing a death blow to RIM.
Neither Apple nor Google has the all important secure community. Destabilising stocks to the point where the stock crashes would leave, vulnerable to a takeover bid, the only platform that is certified for such a community.
Another group to look at is the blogosphere itself. It is absolutely within the realm of possibility to have a site create a story for the sake of hits....and to "assist" in getting insiders to give enough detail to give their letters an air of legitimacy. Look at the iPhone incident...that kept buzzing for days. Who knows how many hits. Look at the buzz over these letters. This is a cash cow for BGR.
The stock market is an ugly battlefield. The standard view of a successful market is a bull....however, one should not forget that there are plenty of sharks conducting business there.
You don't have to think back too far to look at instances of one company creating artificial chaos against another - remember Facebook? Wealth is not created by always playing fair. It's often achieved by going for the jugular.

i'll play along, who has an interest in messing with RIM now? apple and google aren't even really competing with RIM anymore, so i think it's a fair question.
Investors, RIM is a solid undervalued company, someone who sees this and could play with the stock values they could drive the stock down into the low 20's, then pushing positive media coverage out, and RIM having a second compelling product ( media be danged the Playbook is very compelling, more and more consumers are buying them due to word of mouth and not due to rumours of it being crap and needing a blackberry)

HECK! If we are going with outlandish theories, RIM could them selves be driving down their stock price for the repurchase plans, ensuring. Mike and Jim retain control of the company, once they are happy with their holdings the path RIM takes could be just what we have been screaming for the last year
