Unfortunately it is not possible. You need a blackberry bis plan to run bbm and email.

BBM is working with BIS - get a Blackberry Data plan to get it working.

It's stealing and illegal to attempt to circumvent BIS servers. Pay for the data plan, then you'll have BBM.

If the phone has a BB data plan with a carrier then yes. for example, you can use a sprint 9650 in china if you have a plan in the us and connect through wifi.

    Good call!

Pretty sure OP meant without a BB data plan though...

BBM is processed through RIM's servers. It isn't accessed via other web sources, which is why you don't BBM on your computer.

This may change if they get around to a cross-platform solution, but currently, you're SOL.

You need a data plan with BIS, death.
Now, your BIS plan might not get cut off when your cell plan does (say if your bill is late) because RIM controls the BIS switch, and doesn't necessarily know if you pay your bill. But without the BIS plan, you won't get BBM.

All depends on what your carrier offers, like how much monthly data, etc. Social plans aren't good as they're limited.

Plus social plans, if available from your carrier at all, typically do NOT include email, nor support for any apps that use data, including no Browser and no GPS apps.

But im saying if you have a BIS in the US, you can use your phone in china (granted it has wifi) and use bbm, through the wifi networks.

    Ah yeah gotcha.
Right, since BIS has nothing to do with the carrier, if you have a BIS plan and wifi you can use bbm for free anywhere.
