It's most likely a bit of dirt stuck under the keyboard, something conductive. Without a warranty you're going to have to carefully take it apart and wipe it clean.

Before trying to take it apart the last resort would be to use the gas air-dusters and
try your best to clean in there as much as you possibly can. Which is very little but
worth a try. Just air dust the ish outta that phone while you're at it.

It's possible but I highly doubt that it's a software problem. Seems to be a hardware
problem from what I'm reading. You'd have to wipe the phone and re-install the OS.

so is it a hardware or software issue ? your post is a tad confusing ?

    I'm leaning towards hardware.

Pretty much what Radius and I already recommended. It could be that there is
something that got caught under that "P" key. Maybe when you replaced the
    trackball.

If not, you could certainly try the wipe and restore of the OS which is software
related. Or, ordering a new keyboard and replacing it.

That's all you can do. If you want to install a new keyboard you can try. But I
wouldn't expect it to solve your problem. Sounds like you need a new phone.
