I see that they released OS6 for the 9330 and I am wondering if they have plans to release it for the 8530 ?

I had originally bought the 9330 and lost it in a bar and not wanting to pay $350.00 for a replacement I was only able to find a 8530 and now I am kicking myself even more for losing the 9330

From everything I've perused, it will be most likely no. While it would be nice, I won't believe that it will happen until it actually does.

Curve 8520 users wil not get the update. But it is possible, but I don't think you operator will renew your BlackBerry Internet Service.

To do so, just Click Here to look at the guide on Downgrading BlackBerrys and follow every step, except instead of selecting Curve 8520, select Curve 3G, choose OS 6 and delete Vendor.xml and it should run just fine, although thinking you own a Curve 3G. I've never tried so I can't guarantee this will work.

An OS is device specific, so no matter how much you try what you're explaining it will never work.

The 85XX and all 8XXX devices will NOT get BlackBerry 6. Period. Take a look at the official press release from RIM from back in August.

    http://crackberry.com/press-release-...s-blackberry-6

BlackBerry 6 will debut on the new BlackBerry Torch smartphone (announced today) available from AT&T on August 12 and it is also designed to run on select BlackBerry smartphones already in market. Subject to carrier certifications in the months ahead, the new OS is expected to be available for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Pearl 3G, as well as future BlackBerry smartphones.
From that time the Curve 93XX, 9780, and 9670 has come out. Anything in the past will NOT get BlackBerry 6, like the 85XX. If you want a Curve and BlackBerry 6 you MUST get a new Curve 3G.

No, the 8530 is at EOL, and 9330 is replacing it.

I've had my phone less than a year, and already it's EOL'd... and I believe I got it when it was quite early in the release in the UK. Stingy buggers... looks like the UK are being relegated to EOL devices...

Think of it this way. Running OS 6 on an 8520/8530 would be like trying to run Windows 7 on an old 486 computer with 1 MB of memory. It may install (not) but stay tuned for a day to get an application to run.

Let's be Honest here the only reason why the 85xx didn't get OS 6 was to sell the new 93xx , I'm not buying the 85xx would run OS so slow. I have OS 6 on my 9700 its just 25MB bigger than OS 5 .. The differences between the 85XX and 93XX were so minor they needed that extra push to get ppl to buy the phone which was OS 6

Does suck 8530 isn't getting OS6. I played with it on my 9650 when they were leaked while I was on vzw. Ran nice, just vzw sucks by me. So I dumped them and got an 8530 on Boost. Still not better but **** saving money. I love OS6. Its really pleasant on the eyes. I like the 9330. And want to get one but don't want to get tied to a contract. Does anybody know if a 9330 would work on Boost? Or even a 9650. I know the 9630 does, and I think I'm getting that but just want to know if a 9650 or 9330 would work, that way it makes more sense to get one of those instead of the tour.

If the 8530 works then all the phones you listed will also work on Boost

It's pretty simple. The 8530 was an entry level device. Would you prefer RIM stop moving forward, so you all feel better about your phone? It's tech, 1 year is pushing it to still be a lead device. May stink, but it's life in the cellphone world.

Thanks for that info AJ. Just one last thing Does it make a difference in your answer if I let you know I have a Boost branded 8530. not a Sprint one running Boost.

Ok, I just got my BB Curve 8530 back in July and already it's EOL'd!!!! It's a great phone with the exception of not getting OS6! But probably will be leaving BB and going to Android!!!

"First lets look at, whats the same as the older Curve 2. Both the 8530 and 9330 have a 320240 pixel screen. Both devices have a 2 MP Camera w/5x zoom. Both are wifi capable. Both have a full Qwerty keyboard. They have the same dimensions and weight. Also despite what the name of the 9330 3G might suggest both the 8530 and 9330 both have 3G.

So with all these similarities why even make the 9330 3G? Well for one and perhaps the biggest of the new features the 9330 is compatible with the new blackberry operating system Blackberry OS 6. In fact the main purpose of the 9330 was to create a Curve model which would run on the new Blackberry operating system. Other improvements for the 9330 include an improved processor. Where the 8530 had just a 528 Mhz processor the 9330 has a 624 Mhz processor. The 9330 also has double the memory of the 8530. The 8530 had 256 MB of RAM while the 9330 has 512 MB of RAM

Well Boost is a CDMA company , aren't they owned by Sprint ?? I'm sure Sprint phones can work on there network since Sprint sells the 9650 unlocked out the box

The 9330 is also Rev. A instead of the 8530's Rev. O, making it a faster 3G connection.
