What were you doing when it disappeared?

See if the icon is hidden, or if it got moved into another folder like docs to go.

You can also try changing themes to see if it shows up.

If you turn the BB off before taking the battery out, that is not a hard reset. Take the battery out with the power on, wait 30 secs, replace the battery.

Did you just upgrade to BBM 5.0, if so, you need to be on 4.5.0.131 or higher. That is why you have no BBM icon.

I sent the link to some friends on Curve 8330 running 4.5.0.77 and their BlackBerry Messenger disappeared. They were on vacation so they didn't have access to desktop manager. Since there was no official rim blackberry messenger download for 4.5 OS I made one.
You should probably delete Blackberry Messenger 5.0 from Options/Advanced/Applications first.

OTA Blackberry Curve 8330 BlackBerry Messenger version 4.5.0.77

use that link from your phone.
delete bbm completely and let it reboot and then click that link and download it.
    its works, i did it.

the OTA link is not working for my friend. She gets "download failed" everytime. She has no BBM now at all. No access to a PC to use DM to reinstall it (if there is a way).

    Any ideas?

Did your friend delete the 5.0 app from her device first, before attemptring to reload 4.5 OTA?

Yes. Its been deleted properly, rebooted and she cannot dowload the ota for the old BBM. She can download themes just fine, but even the BBM5 was a problem to dl via ota.
