Ive just downloaded the new version of BB messenger to my BB9700; followed instructions etcreboot now! I tried to open the messenger with my Quicklaunch app and got the following message messenger needs to be running- OK. When I looked for it in the instant messenger folder it was not there. I have looked in, Apps, download folders with no luck.

I went back to BB apps world to reload messenger again I got a message do you want to overwrite 5.0.1.38 so the software is on the phone. I downloaded the software again and tried the above again with the same result. I cannot find any icon to start the program. Anyone have any suggestion other a restore to the phone and the old messenger software?

Battery pull, if that fails, upgrade and it'll work fine.

PS. My OS is 5.0.0.862 and my bbm version is 5.0.1.38

Try deleting it from your BB, battery pull then download again. Another source besides App World is BlackBerry Messenger.

I dl-ed the new bbm and it removed the old one and the new one is no where to be found! so this is what ive done so far; can anyone recommend something else?

    1. re download
    2. restart device
    3. remove battery
    4. wipe device and redownload
    5. use backup
    6. manually remove it from applications (even tho i cannot see it) and re download
    7. downloaded from both desktop manager and device
    8. checked for hidden apps
    9. sym + aA + del for restart device
    10. looked everywhere
    11. try to set up right key for BBM; BBM is not even an option on apps or emails to pick from to do right key as short cut for bbm
    12. wipe again
    13. re did all of the above.

Tried what you suggest and deleted the messenger off the phone. Now, I have a BB messenger up-date icon on my phone (from link you sent) BBBBUUUTTTT every time I start the download it jams up with a download failed message with two error a 903 loss of service http error and a 400 error Bad request.
I have also tried a restore but the BB messenger is gone. I am in the Middle East now and it may just be problems with the providers here but I will keep trying.

    Can't find it.

/store/home/user/applications/ has no /addons folder even if I mark the option to show hidden files/folders.

PS. '/store/' is / because of the nature of blackberry's using unix. Same basic filesystem.

Downloading the file is not the problem I but cannot start BB messenger (no BB shortcut icon). I have done the delete/download/re-boot/battery pull 3 times and the results are all the same.

The only thing I have noticed is the file size changed slightly 2.9, 3 and 3.1 Mbytes when I look in Options folder – applications and select “add-ons”. I can see the messenger files there are 15 modules I do not know if this is the correct number of file for BBM to work. The last thing I am going to try is to delete the file again and try to download via my desk top manager, after the BB9700 maybe subjected to the 130KPH drop test from my motorbike..

Is BBM in the app switcher? Hold down the BB Menu key to bring it up. Now a few times when downloading my device became unresponsive at the "app installed - ok" prompt. I pulled up the app switcher and selected the browser. Doing this I was able to recover both times. If BBM is in the app switcher and it launches, the icon has to be hidden somewhere. Depending on your theme, it could be a few places. BTW, what theme are you using? Still happen if you switch to a default theme?

    Hi Guys,
I’m still on a BB9700 learners permit. What’s an app switch if I run into one! Where do they live on my phone? I have also tried changing my themes (default plus two others) as mentioned but the BB messenger icon is nowhere to be found. It looking like the drop test is becoming a real posibility.

Hold down the BB Menu key for 2s and it comes up. The left soft is also assigned to the app switcher by default.
