The 8800 is the older phone and does not support the newer OS and BBM. What version of BB OS are you running on your phone?

I think what happened was when the new BBM was installing, it first deleted your old version BBM. Then it tried to install the BBM but failed, so everything is gone.

For my 8830, I am running OS OS v4.5.0.135. Sprint is recommendating OS v4.5.0.179. That's the most current OS that's recommended for the 8800. I tried the .179 but not very stable. The 135 by far is the most stable version.

Remember the 8800 is older and does not support multimedia, so you are out luck trying to get the new fun stuff.

Yes, you can restore BBM via BB Destop Manager.

If you are going to do that, you might as well upgrade to OS v4.5.0.135.

At minimum the OS v4.5.0.135. will support native HMTL emails and a better/faster browser, that a big plus over your OS 4.2...

You only need a standard USB cable. You can download Desktop Manager v5.0 (just get the latest one) and then install this on your PC.

Then download the device software by following the navigation to select your device by carrier and model number. Install the OS.

I assumed you just installed the desktop manager. Don't plug in your phone yet.

You still need to download a device OS, the second link.

You are not updating or syncing your BB. You are reloading the OS.

Choose Application Loader, then choose the OS v4.5.0.135 (I assume you downladed and installed this). You will be presented with a list of native BB applications (including BBM) and your own downloaded apps. Select your choices. Please be sure to backup your data first.

I had same issue on my 8820. I deleted the application files. Then downloaded and reinstalled the new messenger right to my BB. Working just fine. OS .174
