As the title states the BB messenger icon is on my screen and I can't get rid.

    Tried

    1) Battery pull
    2) Checked for unread messages in all files
    3) Opened all my contacts on messenger
    4) Reset all firewall settings
    5) Pulled my hair out

Any other help would be gratefully accepted.

have someone send you a BBM, check it and see if that helps.

Obviously that was the first thing to try. No messages whatsoever, so I even opened up all contacts and nothing.

Most likely you have either a msg or an alert...You will probably need to look around for it!

I've searched everywhere, now not only is the icon there but there is also the red star on the messenger tab, but when I go in there are no messages :/

    I'm well and truly stumped

I have the EXACT same problem. I emptied my entire messages folder (about 3500 messages + twice that many SMS messages) and didn't do a thing.

After around 10 battery pulls it appears an invitation appeared on my BBM to invite me to some VIP rubbish in some group, I declined and finally it went away

I've upgraded my OS twice and did about 9700 battery pulls and it didn't do anything.

Perhaps there is a msg or an alert waiting to be delivered to your device as well...

Considering it's been there for months perhaps I should change carriers

I don't suspect that its carrier related...I think that it is more delivery related!

Try resending your service books and then rebooting your phone!
