Is the BBM always running or do I have to hit the hang up button to keep it running the background, like with some apps?

BBM will always be running no matter what. It's not like AIM, WLM, or Yahoo! Messenger where you can sign off out of them. The only thing you can do is create a personalized status. It's something I don't like either.

It won't use battery or memory if you aren't sending or receiving messages, though.

Is this true? Its great if it is, cause my 8330 is very slow to begin with.

Ive been looking for these answers for a long time:

    1. Whether BBM when idle, if it uses any systems resources or not?
    2. Affect on battery life?
    3. Better to update from 4.5 to 5.XX? (4.5 came with my Sprint 8330 OS)

    Thanks guys...
