The phantom message indicator is sometimes removed by clearing the bbm database.
Make sure you have a backup of your contacts first!
Plug your bb into your PC.
Open Desktop Manager, go to backup and restore/advanced
    and clear the bbm database...
    Then restore your contacts.

No amount of battery pulls or uninstalls worked for me. This did.

hi Jazzy-i have a suggestion Try going thru your MAIN messages folder to see if there is a message in there that you may have missed. Maybe you have a pending request you missed? I'm just bouncing thoughts here.
