Thanks, I have a BB 8900 with ver 4.6.1.250 on it. The ver of bbm currently on it is 5.0.2.12. When I try to download the lastest ver 6, it keeps sending me back to get ver 5. Do I have the most recent 8900 software?

No you don't. The latest two operating systems are posterd here, on top as forum stickys.

A bit of advice if you decide to do the OS upgrade. Since you would be doing a major upgrade (from 4.x to 5.x), you may experience significant lag/slowing down of your phone. If it is too much for your liking, I recommend keeping a copy of your current 4.x OS handy, in case you need to downgrade to it.

Thanks Raino, downloaded 5.0.0.900. Don't think it is slower. The browser appears faster though. Have many more options now. It's like a new phone sort of. Thanks

When I use the Desktop Management Software...says I have the most up to date software for my BB (ver. 500.900) As pointed out to me there is the Latest Official OS: 8900 5.0.0.1067 available. I'm at a loss here guys.

Uninstall .900 from you computer, install .1067 and delete vendor.xml. If you still get this message, search for more copies of vendor.xml (sometimes multiple copies get created.)

This is copied directly from the Proper Upgrade/Downgrade procedure how-to.

    1. Backup your device with Desktop Manager (Download from HERE)
    2. Backup your third party applications (http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/)
    3. Download the desired device OS (from whatever your source may be and make sure the OS is for your specific device!)
    4. Uninstall all prior OSes from your PC (Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Uninstall Prior OS versions!)
When downgrading you need to make sure all OSes newer than the one you are rolling back to are removed
    5. Install the OS to your PC (run the .exe file)
    6. Delete the vendor.xml file (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader)
    7. Wipe your handheld HowTo Wipe with JL_cmdr or use CrackMem (See footnote warning)
    8. Optimize the OS to your liking (Memory Optimization Procedure or CrackMem)
    9. Load the OS with AppLoader (using DesktopManager) (Usually takes anywhere between 30min - 1hr)
    10. Restore Third Party Apps (http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/)
    11. Restore from Backup in Step 1

Personally, I skip steps 7 and 8, but please do what you like. Good luck!

I'm guessing you installed .900 through Desktop Manager. That's why you can't find an old OS. So if you still want to give it a try, you would need to download .1067 from SwitchBeach's link and start from step#5 (if you've already done 1-3).

Yes. You can download any carrier's software and install it to your phone. This is precisely why vendor.xml is deleted.
