I add people regularly, now have over 50 contacts. I much prefer BBM over texting and therefore communicate with my BBM friends more often than my texting friends. The conversation just seems to keep flowing with BBM. Texting is short and abrupt.

Predominantly, seems like we are seeing 3 divergent trends:

    (1) Americans are rapidly losing BBM contacts

    (2) Canadians' BBM lists are relatively stable (mine included)

    (3) People from the rest of the world are gaining BBM contacts like mad

As I dont have a BB (or any phone) I can't speak for myself, but a few co-workers told me their situation.

Since we're still a majority BB shop here, the BBM contact list for these people are a decent size and are getting larger mainly because our IT is globalized and we meet new people everyday from other countries in the firm - so people get added to their BBM list.

But outside of work, my co-workers have stated that their BBM contact list is quickly shrinking with regards to their personal contacts - as many have moved to the iPhone or Android devices.

BBM used to be a big selling point for BB, but as more and more people leave the BB - BBM will do very little to bring people back as it requires their contacts to also make the switch in order to use BBM.

iPhones and Android devices had enough appeal for people to bail on their BBs and their contacts on BBM - the sacrifice wasn't as great. But going back will be a tough sell since they wont really gain much from going to a BB10 device overall and their contacts are still on SMS to boot (nevermind having less apps).

I think this is one reason why RIM is trying hard to keep their existing customer base, because they fear that it'll be hard to bring a lot of people back.

I agree with berk.. Will be very difficult to bring people back. BB10 is just taking way too long to come out. I had 34 contacts abeginning of last year.. And now down to 15. And I'm in Canada. Once a couple of friends switched the rest followed without any hesitation. Main reasons when asked was faster and smoother experience, better browsing, more apps and games, and it just looks better. I love blackberry and I love my keyboard.

Being in Canada some people are on a 2 year phone cycle, but most are on a THREE year cycle (length of contract before upgrading to a newer phone). As such, if these people just switched last year it is most likely that they wont even look at ANY new phone for another 2 years.

I am in same boat. I plan to buy a new BB10 this fall (most likely winter ) so I have a few months to work on them and convince them a BB is worth it again. Mind you that means *I* will have to pay full price to get one before my contract is up. But I feel it is worth it

Hi, I'm new to blackberry, but is there anyway to know if people on my contacts list have bbm? Besides asking them all of course. Thanks.

A year ago, I had about 15 BBM contacts and today I only have 2 BBM contacts. Quite sad, really.

Seems everyone now has an iPhone or is planning to get an iPhone, with the remaining few with Androids. So I guess iMessage is the new BBM, from my experience at least.

U.S. BlackBerry users are dropping like flies. Really!

I've got about 85 contacts and 18 more in the group. Gained 4 this week.. one just came from a HTC Android phone to a 9900 and in his words said.. "should never have left".

Also got Whatsapp for the Iphone and Android friends. Texts for the remainder.

In the UK BB is still going strong.

I have a very modest BBM friend count. I believe in quality over quantity, so I don't add a ton of people.

My list grew by one today, making it 25.
