I'm using Android Facebook version 28.0.0.20.16, and Messenger version 25.0.0.17.14 myself, and they seem to work good.

Version 29.0.0.0.11 must be an earlier version than version 28.0.0.20.16 because when I tried to update my app it said I already had a later version installed. It also still supports in app messaging which was already removed in version 28.0.0.20.16. The hub notifications do work better though on this version.

Uhm, no. Not exactly. I installed 29.0.0.0.11, but had to delete version 28.0.0.20.16 to do it, then today I tried to open version 28.0.0.20.16 apk which I have on my SD card and it prompted me to update my Facebook app, so version 28.0.0.20.16 is in fact a newer version. Not sure how that works, but...
