Weird. Some get it even without Google Play services.
    And just the latest instagram.

The dependency isn't on Google play services as much as the c2dm receiver service persistently running in the background. It's quite inconsistent across different apps -- to get anything working across the ecosystem we'd need to isolate the variables at play (not so easy).

This just happened to me for the first time today. I didn't change any settings or anything. Just started happening.
Would you mind sharing a bit of info such as device, OS version, method of install, instagram version and etc?

Reddit Sync Pro has been working for a bit longer. It fetches notifications for the time you assign in settings though. Instagram now pushes, which is awesome!

I think it's some kind of android app combination installed that probably allows instagram to push notifications to the hub

Lollipop's notification management has changed drastically, Facebook is one of the first to catch on and update to the change. Expect more apps to suddenly have notifications if you keep them updated.

If it's the latest Instagram which I assume it is from Snap and you're running 10.3.0 then you'll have to deal with a lot of crashing. Some people have said rebooting their device can help. If you're a hardcore user though you're gonna run into a lot of problems.

As of 10.3.1 you won't face any of these problems.

Thank you , I guess I'll just have to wait it out. I don't want to load a leak, too scared I mess up my Passport . I use quite a few Android apps here in South Africa, no alternative in BlackBerry world and its frustrating all the lagging.

Hear me out… could this be an Android 4.2 vs 4.3 issue? When version 1 of the Snap app came out you needed an Android GSF ID associated with your Google play account. Basically an ID for the device you have like a Samsung S3 with OS 4.0.2/4.2 or HTC Evo with OS 4.2.2 - The ID helps Google Play know what app version will run on your device. Notifications don’t work for me, in the last week I did a security wipe on OS .1154. When I starting using Snap v1, I needed to download a test VM of an Android device that had OS 4.1 or 4.2.x, that Android Device VM got me my GSF ID. At some point BB OS went from 10.2.x to 10.3.x and the Android Runtime went from 4.1 to 4.3 support which brought app notification changes. Snap v2 creates these GIF IDs somehow, but I can’t how to have it generate a new one for me. I also tried to download a new Android VM of Samsung S4/5 with OS of 4.3, but in the VM environment the Google Play Store says Instagram is not supported on my device. Could the people who have notifications working have an Android device assisted to their accounts with an OS of 4.3? Which then allows Snap to download a 4.3 compatible app with better notification handling? or am I in left field with this?

I think you're in the left field.

I have never had an android device.
I logged in Play Store with my Gmail account and not sure if I registered (I don't think I need to).

It just so happens it work to some of us.

Initially, I thought it have to do with the Google Play Store from Cobalt's works. But some of us who hot the notification didn't even download the apks.
So, that could mean it have to do with the AR and latest IG.
Which also means that it could be some sort of set up on the device.

I've been trying no end to get this working but can't seem to get IG to sit running in the background. It's very frustrating. I am using 10.3.1 on a Passport and nothing seems to get them going despite getting plenty of notifications form other apps.
