That would severely slow down your usage of the phone.. but I can definitely see the point in it.

No native app can - no api.

And there'll definitely not be an android app that does that because no api and also, there's no hub on android devices so they wouldn't even have something to build it for

It's for the awkward instance for when someone picks up your phone to check then some get nosy and start flipping around. Then you tell them to stop and hand it back so they do but they start teasing you about whoever new person they'll imagine you're dating and hiding it from them... and second reason is because the hub is a swipe away most people checking the phone out end in it by accident, then they get nosy too..

Soo yeah it's because friends are just cool like that :P

Don't give your phone to anyone. Simple solution. I actually like the fact that most people don't even know how to wake my phone up. The less others know about my phone the more secure it is. I even use picture password so no one has access to my phone. My phone has all my personal stuff on it, so I don't even let people use it to make calls.
