Does the music gateway need constant power or does it have a battery, looking for an easy way to bluetooth stream to car stereo.

    Does your car have BT?
Just stream from your phone to your car that way. Add your songs to your SD card.

why don't connect your blackberry using "Massstorage" setting and a normal miniusb to usb cord?
car bt is annoying unless you have a microphone being connected to your carstereo headunit.

The setting can be found under "settings" - "storage" - "massstorage mode" (or similar).

The newer, all black ones do need a power source. I've been using a Z10 battery bundle to power mine.

The one I bought from Crackberry (which works great by the way), came with a dual charger bundle. One micro USB to power the gateway from your cars accessory power outlet and the other to charge your phone.

Are you sure you have the BB gateway? I thought they all need a power source. It's the only drawback (IMHO) in an otherwise excellent accessory

BlackBerry gateway is a very nice unit with NFC and good BT sound quality although it needs undated now in 2014.

BlackBerry 10 phones now support apt-X with even better BT sound quality.
The BlackBerry gateway needs to support apt-X.
Also needs a high quality DAC.

There are a few BT units appearing now with apt-X and NFC. I resorted to Crystal Acoustics BluDAC which even has optical out. Only downside to this one is the power input is old-fashioned 5.5mm barrel jack not micro-usb but it's still 5v so I could use a usb to jack converter with a cigar lighter usb converter but to be honest I bought for use in the house so not an issue.

One thing I will say about it as well. I've used it with a bold 9930 a torch 9850 and now my Z10.

No pairing issues. Ever. BlackBerry accessory with a BlackBerry phone. Nice and solid.

The BlackBerry Gateway needs to be plugged in. It comes with the typical BlackBerry mini-charger. The Gateway is plugged into the charger via USB cable, and also plugged into your stereo or speaker system in order to function. Connectivity is acquired by tapping the phone to connect via NFC, and then music is live-streamed via BlueTooth. The Gateway works quite well, and is small and compact.

I just bought mine today. It's great. I had the idea to try it with my Z10 charger bundle (someone above also had this idea). It works. Great for when one doesn't have access to electricity.

I just got mine yesterday too. I actually think the lack of battery is good since it's designed to be constantly plugged in. An internal battery would be dead pretty quick.

I just use an external battery when I need to use it on the go as other suggested. I use the Gateway to add BT connectivity to my car since it has an AUX in but no BT. The external battery pack also performs 2 other critical functions:
    1) provides a power buffer to eliminate the audio whine from the ground loop. when running the power source through the battery it charges the pack the and power coming from the battery pack is clean and not sharing the same ground as the car stereo (no so audio whine/buzz)
    2) provides a constant source of power in case you turn off your engine/restart your engine a lot which allows your BT connection to stay and not re-initialize (often has to be done manually) which is a pain in the azz!

Those are the exact same reasons I use the battery pack, haha.

Very underrated. I like it more than the mini speaker for the NFC pairing feature. No battery doesn't really bother me. Works really well with all my devices, whether blackberry, android or iOS. If it was released at a lower price than its original $50 sticker it would have been a rare home run for BB.
