You've been unable to install any of Cobalt's apps?
I installed all the three apps
    Google account
    Blackberry account
    Play store

It is play services that is kicking up the fuss.
And i also keep getting those constant reminders to update the software

I will only update it when I get the green flag from you guys)

You can update your Runtime to the one offered in BlackBerry World (links were provided many times), and the notifications will stop.

Did you follow all the steps exactly?

HOW TO GET ALL FEATURES WORKING IN GOOGLE MAPS

    1) Install Google Account Manager and login
    2) Install Blackberry Google ID and checkin
    3) Install Google Play Sevices (wait 5 minutes after you installed and let the app settle)

Search for "Ghost Commander" in BBW, install it on your device and then you can delete any Android application.

The OP already has installed and used it.
However, just to repeat the warning, be careful deleting stuff with Ghost Commander as you can delete stuff that isn't good to delete.

You weren't advised incorrectly. They do two different things. One is the Play Store so you can download apps, and the other is Play Services which is used in conjunction with patched apps that require them.

Snap what? You understand, Snap is but an old substitute for Google Play Store? It was great in its day, but with Cobalt, it really is the store.

I download it and it says cannot open, so how do I install a file that cannot be opened

so my question is whether I could side load it. I tried sideloading in different formats but all of them came up an error.

Place it in your phone's storage, internal, external, doesn't matter. Access it through file manager. Click it. Install. Smile...job done.

Add the apk extension yourself if it doesn't have one.

    Done

But many of my apps are still not functional

Watsapp doesn't updload media files of any form, anymore.

snapchat closes as soon as it opens

    uber keeps saying network error

ghost commander keeps opening some dropbox page all the time.

It is a big mess really

I still cannot see that android run time on my phone.

Im wondering whether the read this thread, and start all over again?

or are there any updates that I might have missed out?

    Thanks again for your time

I select sign in and security

It takes me to my signed in details. But that is about it.

Could you post a screenshot of what I am supposed to be seeing or doing with this app please

    Please forgive my ignorance

To the best of my knowledge, Whatsapp android version won't upload media on BB10. Use the BlackBerry version.

Snapchat won't work. They black-balled BlackBerry.

Uber I'm not sure of, but can test this evening if no one else has a clue.

Ghost commander is an app you don't need, and will probably only lead to problems.

You can't "see" android runtime, but if you can click and install an apk file, it's there.

If you see you're signed into Google, then you did it right. Only thing wrong is trying that which has been extensively discussed on CrackBerry as failing.

    someone has posted :

The source is ready to compile with a few easy steps:

    1. Install Play Services Patcher
    2. Copy the content of the zip file into the /tmp directory
    3. Create a dummy file named "com.android.vending_6.0.0.apk" (a renamed text file will do. Be sure that the files doesn't end up with the name "com.android.vending_6.0.0.apk.txt")
    4. Open Play Services Patcher, go to options and select "keep processing folder"
    5. Select the dummy apk file
    6. Hit rebuild

Ive missed the plot on the first step itself

How do I install play services patcher please? I cannot see any installation button!

Bb watsapp will phase out eventually by the end of the year

so whats the point of all this exercise if none of this can get apps to work, sorry I am really at a loss.

Anyway I'll keep trying and doing my best.

I suspect many of you have the technical know how

I only know that I have a blackberry passport. I am a housewife, I don't know much about all this, this is why it is so tedious, sorry for being a bad student. but your patience appreciated. I really want to get this working, to use of apps like w.app, viber, small other apps like uber etc.

Uber does indeed work fine, when patched. Many apps do not. The point is Cobalt has offered a solution for most. If the ones you feel you need aren't among them, then BB10 isn't the phone for you, or you need a cheap android for them. I have 29 apps through Google Play. Almost all of them require patching. I expect as time marches on, as a couple have already, more and more will refuse to patch. The older version eventually will become useless, and I like you will have to choose my priorities.
