I still consider it naked even if I have a holster. I think of when I'm using it.....

I bought a Defender for my 8330 two years ago and loved it. I work in a retail warehouse store and if I were to drop it on the concrete from waist level, it would certainly survive without a scratch, versus going without a ruggedized case and the uncertainty of not knowing whether the case will truly protect a device which would cost me $400-something to replace. I bought a Defender for my Bold before I even ordered the phone. They arrived the same day on the same delivery truck.

I'd rather spend ~$50 on a good case and know my device is protected than drop my phone and end up pissed that it didn't survive in one piece.

Occasionally I have pondered getting a different holster/case for my Bold, but it seems like quite a bit of hassle to keep switching cases depending on what I'm doing and where I am. I'd rather have one solution that works well instead of changing it so often that it gets scratched anyway in the process of transferring it between cases.

The other perk is the holster. No one else makes such a secure and durable holster that's as easy to put the phone into and take it out of quickly (not to mention the magnetic sensor).

Essentially, OtterBox isn't my favorite because of the protection it provides as much as the convenience it provides in tandem with reliable protection.

I use the holster that came with it. Also, use the OEM BB pocket pouch. Protected when not in use but showing off the beauty when in your hand. By the way both prolong battery life by putting the phone to sleep.

I prefer naked but bought a case for my 9650 this time. It was a simple snap-on hard case from smartphoneexperts, the cheap-o one for $10. I wanted the lowest profile hard case out there, this seemed like it. Had it on for a day or two and abandoned. It just added unnecessary bulk. So it's back to unprotected for me.

So you routinely place it in and then remove from the Otterbox. I've always found in/out a pain but maybe I'm just too lazy. I hike, bike and cross-country ski so keep it always protected in the Defender. I wear a sports jacket to work and still keep it in the Defender. I removed the spring clip from the holster and use the holster as a slip case.
Yes I do. It comes apart very easy if you pry with a finger nail at the corner where the mic is. I only had a problem with the rubber o-ring that goes around the mic opening. I cut the bottom half of the rubber off and it goes on and comes off much easier with no side affects.

I use a $6 gray smoke, see-through Epik resin gel soft case that adds very little weight or bulk to the phone and still fits in the stock holster when I am on the run out and about town, but go nekkid at home and when just sitting at my desk in the office. I also use an anti-glare screen protector, although I might have to get one of those privacy screen protectors to keep prying eyes from stealing my good porn for free, LOL.

Would never consider an Otterbox since I'm not that rough on my phones nor in a job that would require such. But I do add a Case Mate Gelli case occasionally (in purple) or an Seidio Innocase Snapon (in purple) when out and about. But at home it's naked so I can place it on a desktop charger.

I've had Palm Treos and Pre and a BB Curve. I never used a case for them because they were fairly sturdy. The Pre on the other hand is the reason I'm not on the Bold 9650 (speaker broke 3 days after 1 year warranty ended). I really can't afford to buy another phone without using my rebate so I ordered the Commuter Case. I'm currently using it in the holster.

I'd say if you can afford to replace your Bold or have insurance, go right ahead and use it naked! If you cringe everytime you 'may' have dropped it, get a case

How do you like the OEM pocket pouch? Are you talking about the one found in the store here that has the elastic on the sides?

Using it with no case. Ordered a holster though, just since I don't really like putting the phone in my pocket all the time.

Here's the holster I got from eBay: Black Leather Slide in Case

It fits perfectly! The clip is very low profile, so it doesn't poke me in the side and it's not too obvious that I even have it on under my shirt. The clip is detachable, so i can use it as a pocket pouch too. Only $10, and shipped from TX. Almost forgot, it has a magnet for the standby function too.

I too have a Defender but today after taking girlfriend to lunch I stopped by Best Buy and bought a black BB skin like I have on my 8330. I'll save the Defender for when I'm on my boat or mountain bike, being an office worker the defender is overkill.

I am the only one who put a chromatics phantom skin on I think. That is ok. My phone is poppin pink and fits perfectly in my golla bag. At work she is on my desk or in my hand, at home on my desk or in my pod, traveling-in my golla or the holder in my car. I use the heck out of my bold, but there isn't any reason she can't be pink!

I use the OEM pocket pouch purchased here with the elastic sides. It works perfectly for me. Not a lot of bulk, easy to remove, puts to sleep to save battery and I can use the charging pod at night.

As a lot have said, I don't like the bulk of a case or skin unless it's ultra thin. I just use the OEM leather slide case, and PhantomSkinz on the screen, that's it.

i use the phantomskinz and i love it. i usually spend a month at the beach in the summer and i use an otterbox defender during that month. i have a 5 y/o that tends to kick sand in everything and the otter box is cheaper than having to replace the phone once or twice a year. otherwise the otterbox is too big. i use a bold 9000 case when i wear pants with big pockets and the holster case that came with the phone the rest of the time. the otterbox is great if you are in a really tough environment but otherwise it's overkill.
I use phantom skins on my 9650. After going through many cases I decided the extra bulk most cases give isn't for me. Phantom skins are clear barley visible and protect all corners of my phone.

otterbox commuter all the way. So happy I have one. Slim profile and smooth plastic shell so it slides into your pocket easy but rubberized underneath for shock.

Otterbox Commuter came in the mail yesterday and I couldn't be happier. It basically is a silicone case with a plastic outershell (the case is two pieces). Cushioning with the silicone and the plastic helps the phone slide in the pocket and the phone feels VERY comfortable with it. I've never been this excited about a case before lol.

This thread spurred me to look beyond my Otterbox Defender. I've had the Defender on my 8830 and when I got the Tour went that route again for it. I moved the Tour's Defender to my Bold when it arrived last week. But seeing both phones naked and slim ..... Well, it was thought provoking.

Yesterday I picked up the Verizon Shell and holster (I don't know who makes it for them). It is much slimmer. The phone is not as well protected, obviously, the top edge particularly is more exposed. I did manage to "stuff" the Otterbox's keyboard membrane into the new case so the keyboard is better protected from the elements. I had left on the screen protector the Bold came with but trimmed off the tab (removal tab).

I don't use belt clips and had removed that from the Otterbox holster and just did the same for this Verizon case.

I will say it takes getting use to. I'm used to a hefty case and there's less to grab onto when typing and no grippy rubber to resist slipping although this Verizon case is grippy but slim. Today will be its first full day and I shall see........

i always use commuter otterbox, thought it looks masculine...

but after some time, i feel bored, take it off and found the real beauty instead...

i have used otterbox in storm2 and bold 9700 but never use since....

a belt clip on holster fits better with an extended batter, and i gues bold 9700 as well as 9650, look plain sexy when they r naked
