What is the difference (battery saving wise) between putting the BB into stand by with the mute key and putting it in the holster? Would it be better to put the phone in stand by before holstering it?

I believe the only difference is that when you holster it, it goes into standby automatically, due to the low-powered magnets in the holster. When you hit the mute button to put it into standby manually, you have to hit it again to get out of standby.
I also believe you can have different settings in your profiles for in holster and out of holster alerts.
