so ive had the blackberry for a couple months now and ive noticed that when other blackberries, iphones or smart phones in general SMS me, a special alert tone comes up for it. My friends&roommates both have blackberries and it does the same thing and they do not know why. I've tried changing the profile many times to see if it'll change it but it hasnt. Why does this happen and is there any way to change it? without assigning that specific person a sms tone?

Assuming you know how to set ring tones on your BB, "SMS Text" and "MMS" are settable items on the "Ring tone" list. Also be aware that "Blackberry messenger Alert" is a different item on the same list. My BB currently plays a clip from "Funlytown" for SMS/MMS.

i don't know what OS you're running on..
but generally you can go to options.. then profile then sounds
where you can basically play with all alerts..
not just SMS, MMS but even every email account you have..
you're problem might be you have a group of contacts with special tones that you might have set accidentally..

also you may check to make sure you are using the sound profile you have the alert set to. If you have a different profile selected the sound will be that set for that profile.
