I posted this in the 8330 Forum but I think it may be better answered in this Forum...

So I will apologize in advance if this is a re-post but when I do a search all I get for hits are lots of people taking videos and then not being able to watch them. My problem is a little different.

I upgraded to O/S from the Telus 4.3.x.x and I've noticed that since this has happened some (not all) of my MPEG4 videos will not play on my 8330. I had no issues before the upgrade. These same vids were ALL perfectly playable in v4.3 so I don't know if they would remove codecs from the new release -- am considering downgrading since HTML email is not worth no longer having "Entourage" Marathons in the Server room while waiting for stuff to finish loading etc... haha

So I have now tried and also I have tried re-copying the files from my Desktop PC to the Media Card, with the same result. I even tried re-encoding a video that worked previously on 4.3 using the same settings, no joy. Played with the settings to encode with different fps, and codecs and still no joy.

So far the ONLY thing that has worked is copying the MP4 with the Roxio Media Manager and using the Optimize option.

I hate Roxio WITH A PASSION, and am dead-set on finding a solution to this issue which will allow me to copy the files from my desktop to the media card using a simple copy command in Windows... Just like I was able to do with OS 4.3

Roxio is cumbersome and slow and not worth the hassle imho

Anyone else in the same or similar boat? I really don't want to have to re-encode my entire collection of videos or purchase another encoder just for the Blackberry when I know damned well they have played just fine in the past...

I would be very interested in the answer to this because I have similar problems with my Verizon 8330.

The codecs did change in 4.5
Grab yourself a copy of Super.

    Default save location..
    C > program files > eright software > Super > output..

    Output container> 3gp(sony Ericsson)
    Output video codec> Mpeg4
    Output audio> AAC
    video scale> 320x240
    aspect> 4:3
    Frame sec> 15
    bitrate> 192
    option> high quality
    Sampling> 22050
    Channels> 2
    bitrate> 128
    audiostream> default

    Frame/Sec: 25
Video Bitrate: 1200kbps will get you a better quality pic, but also a much bigger file.

whether you use super or handbrake or DVDFab or 1 of the other zillion programs, the key is the Mpeg4 codec and the 3gp output container..and yes, as a last resort roxio media manager will also work, and actually isn't too bad for a vid that already has been encoded but just won't play on 4.5..

Check the link my my signature if you have a Verizon device and don't want to use Roxio to convert your videos. Should work for other carriers too.
