We've all thought about it, does anyone have any insight on this? I'd imagine the smoothness is from the release agent used in the mold. Any way to replicate this? I want to keep the case for my 8900 smooooth!

Unfortunately these cases seem to have a limited life span. I think the best cases available now are the Epik cases. They are the most durable and longest lasting and feel great in your hand.
The OEM cases don't last and get very loose and sloppy over time.
