Ok,

This is strange. I put my phone into standby and as soon as I slip it in the holster it comes out of standby.

If I put it in the holster in normal mode, nothing happens, it stays in normal mode.

Why is it acting this way. I really want it to go to standby when in holster to conserve battery.

Have you tried rebooting your 8830? With the phone on, remove the battery, leave it out for a few seconds, then put it back. See if that solves the problem.
