Failed to install Invisible Shield - Ugly looks.

- Yeah the invisible shield is a dust, lint magnet. I closed my door, had new microfibre cloths which I used to clean my Bold entirely before. And just got to work.
I don't know why people don't put on the back piece. I know it's not needed because the leather-like texture won't scratch like the other devices, but you paid for the protection might as well. I got it perfect on the back and it not only added a "grippier" feel, but it looks like a custom croc-skin back piece now.
The only places mine have really gotten dust is on the ones near the trackball. After a month of brickbreaker etc... I got a lot of dirt/dust near the edges there but its easy to slowly remove it.
The pieces on the sideseven though they do not cover the whole bezel, they cover the parts where scratches are most likely to happen. If I had protection there from the start, I wouldn't have had those scratches I got. The bezel is very sensitive. I got microscratches just from using soft kleenex to wipe the dirt/grease that comes from your hands on there.
Next time, remember to fully clean your device with a microfibre cloth beforehand. Use the solution liberally. If you mess up a bit, quickly remove it within 2 minutes, and run it under warm water while using a little soap. Don't ever touch the sticky side. And really if its taking you time to apply it, keep putting the solution on your fingers. They cannot be dry.
For the curved parts, put the shield on, and then cup your hand over all the curved sides for about 2 minutes. And keep checking if they are sticking.
What I did then, was to leave it wrapped in a microfibre cloth and in a sealed ziploc bag with some uncooked rice for about 3 days. All the bubbles and moisture went away.
As a side note. I dont remember my screen clicking from the top left before I put it on. It only clicks right where the air bubble is and where I applied the most pressure trying to squeegee it out and so either i loosened the lcd from the lens, or the LCD from the bezel. The screen is fine though. It just "clicks" if its pressed there.07-26-09 06:18 PMLike 0 - Under the advice of another post on this subject I put mine on in the bathroom. I first turned on the shower and steamed up the room (knocks the dust down). I put it on my brand new bold before even activating the phone. I used the spray liberally including on fingers. Had one small bubble that disappeared after 48 hours or so.07-27-09 01:29 AMLike 0
- I've done this a few times with several different devices (sister's iPhone, other sister's Samsun Eternity, and my own Bold). Best thing to do is to work in a steamed up bathroom (turn on the hot water and let it get hot in there). This forces a lot of the dust in the room to displace and settle to the ground. Second, only use microfiber clothes to clean the phone or at best use a clean cotton towel. This prevents dust. Kleenex tissues and stuff of that sort always leave small peaces of dust which really doesn't help. Third, spray plenty of solution on your fingers and on the protectors and use a squeegee or credit card and start from the middle and push the air bubbles towards the edges.07-27-09 02:22 AMLike 0

Wow, I really learned a lot from you all.
Thanks a lot for sharing the information!07-27-09 07:22 AMLike 0 -
- Good news!
The IS on the buttock of my bold has settled and now seem to stick properly, unlike before.
The screen hasn't really changed though.
I'll post picture of how my bold's buttock and screen looks, soon.
EDIT: here are the images

07-27-09 07:27 AMLike 0 - Hmm, both might not be possible to do in the near future. So busy with uni already nowadays. Thanks for your suggestion anyway!07-27-09 09:10 AMLike 0

- ****!
Probably because of my own poor Invisible Shield (IS) installation skill, my bold's screen looks like "crap" now.
Less aggravating but the buttock of my bold also looks rather ugly.
I'll post the how my screen looks when it's on with those bubbles in a short while.
I might have to rip the IS screen protector apart and change to a new, cheaper one. Don't wanna spend too much on it already.
EDIT:
Here's how the screen looks like when turned on

whoa! First I ever hear of this. Very nice 'service' frankly. People will pay upwards of the cost of the Friggin' shield itself for a professional install.
I've done a lot of these...and I gotta say. It's all in the patience, and disciplined working atmosphere.
A nice deep trance playlist helps as well .07-27-09 10:52 AMLike 0 - 07-27-09 10:54 AMLike 0

Thanks for telling anyway.07-27-09 11:01 AMLike 0 - Wow, LOL, that looks reeeeeeeeeeally bad.
I've installed these on all of my phones and none have come out anywhere near looking like that.
Get a replacement from Zagg. They'll send you a new one for the cost of shipping (you have lifetime replacements)...and so it doesn't get all screwey this next time, make sure you clean your phone.07-27-09 02:13 PMLike 0 - I get one called Clear Protector from ebay and its a really good one....if you want good results the prep has to be completely clean and imho the only way to go is with a wet application....just dip the sheild in water that has been mixed with one drop if dishsoap...let the excess drip off and apply...as soon as its in place use a paper towel and repeatedly rub across the sheild to get all of the excess liquid to the edges where it will be absorbed by the towel

Because you said you bought it online and ZAGG's warranty is only if you bought it from their online site, or from one of their licensed stores or resellers.
And second, this would fall under misuse because you didn't do it properly. I know it sucks to hear that but I'm sorry.
I bought mine from amazon for like $14.00 bucks so maybe if it bothers you too much you can get one from there.
Though I will say that my invisible shield has protected my screen from so many careless mistakes by me such as putting my phone in my pocket with keys/pens before I realize what I did etc...
At least you learned somewhat how to do it better in the future and so wait a couple months, see if it really bothers you,etc... and do it again.
AND: It doesn't really look that horrible. I know that the pictures you posted make it look like that, but it's not really so bad. They are bound to have dirt, grease etc... And your camera picture just really highlighted it. Mine's applied like 98% perfectly but if I took a picture like that even mine would show dust like that.07-27-09 07:57 PMLike 0 - I bought the full body kit from Zagg for my Bold at Best Buy for $30 (yeah, I know, it's cheaper at other outlets). I applied it the first time, and it was terrible. I didn't use enough solution, and there were bubbles everywhere. I removed, but ended up stretching one of the corners, although that wasn't such a big deal.
On my second application, I worked all the bubbles out, and it looked nice, but of course, I ran into the lint problem. It drove me absolutely crazy. I gave it a day to see if I'd get used to it, but it wasn't happening.
So, I tried a third time. I held the shield under running water and removed as much lint/dust as I possibly could, sprayed the crap out of the shield, and applied it. It looked really good, except for one piece of lint, which I thought was acceptable. However, I used too much solution, and a bit seeped behind the screen, causing abnormalities on the display.
At that point, I admitted defeat, and returned it to Best Buy. I don't know if I have the nerve to apply any liquid based shield again. On the plus side, the display is slowly returning back to normal. That was too close a call for me, however.07-27-09 08:45 PMLike 0 - Almost all of the "better" protectors are liquid based. What you should've done is not turn on the device for upto 3 days or more. And what I had done as an extra precaution was sealed the phone with some uncooked rice in a ziploc bag. The uncooked rice absorb moisture.07-27-09 09:51 PMLike 0

And yeah, it doesn't look that horrible, just the camera highlighting the dust that are on top of the screen protector (not below it).
(I think I've said this somewhere in page 1).
