I love the black and red color combo so I decided to customize my Otterbox Commuter case with some high quality scratch proof plastic paint($20 a can!), Here is the final product. I will post some better pics later including the front and side views. All in all I think it turned out really well.

nice work...but that looks like the "commuter case", not defender.

Gotta admit, that looks awesome. Paint job is flawless. i would try it, but would probably mess up the paint and have drip marks everywhere.

That's the real test. Supposedly this paint is pretty hard core. It binds to the molecules of the plastic and kind of paints it from the inside out. You can try to scratch it with a key and it won't scratch at all. They use it for refinishing interior work on cars like the vinyl seats, etc. but I'm curious to see what it looks like in two months too!

Oops, you're right. I put commuter in the title of the thread and for some reason put Defender in the post. Thanks.

The paint is called Color Bond. You can order it from Ebay for about $13 plus tax and shipping per can.

    Post pictures when you're done.

I totally agree! If they did, I wouldn't have had to go through all the trouble of doing it myself! Lol

Is it spray paint? Is there a special way to not get drip runny marks on the plastic?

I love your case and would love to make mine blue

It looks AWESOME lol. Please update us on the quality of the paint, any rub-off, etc! Also how did you do this? Is it as simple as spraying it once and letting it dry?

    Thanks and good job!

It is a spray paint. It takes a couple of nice even coats to cover up the original black but the paint is very high quality so as long as you hold the can about 8-10" away while spraying you shouldn't get any runs or drips.
