It's a Personal Identification Number. It is keyed to that individual BB. If you've noticed the BBmessenger icon on your home screen it is used to send instant messages via data to other BlackBerry devices.

PIN messaging doesn't necessarily have to be used for BB messenger. You can send PIN messages like text messages. It's like having a phone number, but unique to each blackberry. So if you change BBs, you get a new PIN.

It's also saved in AutoText so you can type: "mypin" without the quotations and hit space and it will pop up.
