I'm trying to install Desktop Software v4.3 for use with my Pearl 8100. My question is in regards to the section where you are asked how you want to connect, Blackberry Enterprise Server etc. My position is that I don't want to use the Pearl for internet access or e-mails etc. All I want to use it for is for phone calls, texts, photo storage, music storage etc. That being the case what specific choices do I make during installation, given that I can't andvace to the next stage without ticking at least one box?

Just select that one so that you can get the Desktop Manager onto your PC.

Okay, so I should install BIS but is there any way round this? As I see it this means my phone is connected to the internet with all the possible dangers that incurs when I don't need or want internet access. My only reason for upgrading my DS is because I need to upgrade my 8100 device software so that it can use a 4GB media card. At present with 4.2.0.51 I can only use a 2GB card.

You will not get the Desktop manager unless you make one of the selections.

It will not put internet settings on your BB. It is just an option for what type of BB set up you have. Although you haven't got it you need to select one and that is the best one to go for.

It doesn't matter whether you have BIS or not. That is the option you choose if you are not on BES and will get you what you want.
