    I have a few questions:

    Does BIS cost money?

If it does is there any other way to get email on your blackberry?

    Hello.

    Yes BIS costs money.

If you want email on your phone you will use data whether you have BIS or not as data has to be paid for.

With wifi though you may be able to browse to your email on line or find an email client such as gmail that works over wifi.

Very few applications work over wifi at the moment though.

In my opionin it would be a real shame to have a device like the Bold and not have a data plan as quite a few options would not be available to you without a data plan.

Aside from the $30/mo data plan, no BIS doesn't.

    BIS = Blackberry Internet Service.

Its never been easier to get email, attachment viewing, web browsing and instant messaging on the go!

BlackBerry Internet Service is the out-of-the-box service that comes with every BlackBerry smartphone that is activated with a data plan*. You can be up and running in just a few steps, regardless of email account type and without IT support. Its the easiest, most affordable way for individuals or small businesses to start using BlackBerry smartphones.

BlackBerry push technology lets you receive your email effortlessly because messages are automatically pushed to your device.

    With BlackBerry you can*:

    * Access up to 10 work and personal email accounts, plus an optional, new BlackBerry email address that comes with your BlackBerry smartphone
    * Browse websites and instant message on your BlackBerry smartphone just as you would on your desktop browser
    * Stay organized with access to your latest calendar, address book, task and memo pad information and easily import the contacts from your existing desktop organizer software to your BlackBerry smartphone you dont have to re-enter information!

As opposed to BES for corporate users @ $45/mo...

BlackBerry Professional Software Express provides a wireless communications and collaboration solution designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses.

Companies that would like to get up and running quickly with minimal initial investment can download this software. It will enable one person to experience the capabilities and benefits of the BlackBerry Professional Software in a pay-as-you-grow approach.
    What's Included?

    * One free BlackBerry Professional Software for Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino
    * One user included, expandable to 30 users (at additional cost)
    * The ability to expand beyond 30 users to any size deployment by purchasing a BlackBerry Enterprise Server Trade-Up Key and upgrading to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
    * One complimentary BlackBerry support incident that can be used to access BlackBerry Technical Support should you require assistance
