I recently (today) switch from a palm treo 755p to the blackberry curve due to several issues I had with my treo. I have no clue how to sync this blackberry. Do I need to have outlook inorder to sync the device? When I click "confic sync" it has two option ASCII and Yahoo. When I select ASCII it asks me to browse and find a file. I am lost....

What are you trying to sync to? Most people sync to MS Outlook on their PC.

Maybe that is the issue. I don't have outlook because I had Palmdesktop software the acted as my calendar. Do I need to purchase outlook to make it work? Also. I tried to load an application (ascendo money)to my phone and that didn't work either. Am I crazy or just not used to the way this stuff works yet?

If your only two options are ASCII and Yahoo, I suspect that you do not have a valid copy of OUTLOOK on your computer. When I say "valid", I mean 2002 or better, because my understanding and experience is that is what is required when you use Desktop Manager software. Once you have Outlook installed, it will show as an additional selection, i.e. ASCII, Yahoo, Outlook and then click OUTLOOK (because that is where the emails, contacts, calendar, etc. are located) and it will be a breeze from there. Hang tough but you need OUTLOOK, version 2002 or better!
    Good Luck.

I hate to sound pompous but I am sure this is the authors problem since I just went thru it with my sister. She lives out of state and I finally talked her into a BB but only with the stipulation I would help her with everything and she has held me to it!!! I just went thru this EXACT problem with her on Friday. She did NOT have OUTLOOK installed on her computer so her son installed it for her. Once it was installed it came up as one of those option, Yahoo, ASCII and OUTLOOK. Once she clicked on Outlook it prompted her thru the rest of the process seamlessly.

Again, how much more can I be sure this is the author's problem having exhibited the same exact error messages as my sister?

And YES, you have to own or buy a copy of OUTLOOK. Want some more experience? If you buy it at Office Max or some place like that, be careful and READ the box. The MS Office Student package have choices, some WITH Outlook, some without it and you can buy OUTLOOK as a stand alone single item also. Based on the price, I did the math and weight my usage and need of a new version of Word and Excel and opted for the MS Office package with the OUTLOOK rather than the stand alone single copy of OUTLOOK only. I think OUTLOOK was about $150 and the entire office was $240.

    Again, good luck.

You can download a "free trial" version of MS Office from Microsoft's site. Once you do that and prove your problem was because you didn't have OUTLOOK, then you can decide to buy their "trial" version or shop for the best price. Good Luck.
