I've seen several posts that say "upon holstering" the device will lock, not make calls, etc.

1. What's the difference in "holstering" your bb (I'd assume this would be in a pouch or clip)

2. locking your bb (I know how to do this)

3. and enabling standby mode from the top button on the phone.



Do all these things basically do the same thing?

With some phones, you can see the clip grooves on the sides/top/bottom of phone for the clip-my bb doesn't have this, so how would the device "know" it's been holstered?


Also, would the phone still notify you of messages and ring if it's "holstered" or even in standby mode? (I know it does when locked)

One last one! I promise...why if my phone is locked does it not show the name of the person calling it only shows the number. Is there a way to fix this or is this just a wonderful RIM feature?

Holstering is when you have the device in a holster. There are magnets that tell the BB when it is either in or out of the holster. It stays on just the same and will alert you depending on how your alerts are setup in your profiles for when the device is holstered.
