    Hello all,
I'm just over a month into my first blackberry, and I love it. One question I'm a little confused on the device software version(s). I'm on AT&T, and I've done the check/upgrade and I'm at 4.2 right now. I've seen a couple of posts about removing the vendor file and going to 4.5? Am I readying this correctly?

If that is the case, is there a thread that talks people who have done this and the exact steps to do this and is it worth it?

    Thanks

    Jim

    Welcome to CrackBerry.

BlackBerry is constantly updating their software. The v4.5xx OS is a midlife refresh for the Curve, Pearl and '88's. This link details the improvements.

    BlackBerry - BlackBerry Device Software

The procedure is not difficult and most members have accomplished it without any difficulty. On the rare occasion when a problem does accrue, it is almost always a USB connection issue.

Step by step instructions are posted with the OS update.

    Is it worth the effort?

Yes, the Browser and Email improvements alone make it worth while. Video and Voice Notes are nice features too.

There is a newer OS out there. It works great. I have it running on my ATT 8310.

If you catch up on some of the chatter in the thread Reed posted and/or for newer OS's you'll get a feel for whether it's worth making the upgrade. It's an opportunity to get your feet wet and learn how to do it as well as have a fresh berry. The posts above are great guides and here are some I've used a lot lately.

When the time came all I needed was a newer OS and one or more of these:

There are a lot of threads and posts in the forum regarding OS upgrades but the one thing I would suggest first is to get comfortable with your new device BEFORE upgrading your O.S.

Just make sure to back up and follow the instructions to the letter for upgrade. Once you have upgraded you will really love your berry.

Yes there is but its not released by a carrier. Version .99 is definately stable enough for the user to use. Even the above average user would not notice a difference from .99 to .102.

Thank you ALL for the info and posts...very much appreciated. I went ahead and did the upgrade last night and it went fine. Did loose BB Maps, but I'll start searching for that fix. I do know that I only have 3 of the 4 modules when I check, just need to find the post to fix that one.
    Thanks again

PS: When and where are the BB Anonymous meetings? The way I'm looking at this, I'm going to need one.
