I thought that it was the other way round, the cooler the better for battery and component life.
Yes, tis true-the cooler the better for components and battery..but..also the weaker the radio signal and this is what I think takes the hit. At this point, assuming that the hotter running one will give me better 3g/4g signals and signal locking (assumption again on my part), I will take the better radio power with increased heat over the not as good radio power with less heat. My BB9900/.714/large Sfi/RC7B1 runs a cool 19'C while just idling and 3/4g is weak and sometimes I have to pull the battery to lock into the 3/4G. My BB9790 with .714/RC7B1 runs hotter at 25-27'C idle but I get a great 3G signal. I don't remember which SFI I have in it. But, better 3/4g signals seems to correlate to hotter running. I could be wrong here but seems to make sense to me.

With a fully charged 9900 in the morning, I set out for my site inspection & by lunch, the damn .746 large OS left my BB "high & dry" - shutting it down as the high 8 - 10% ADR kept sapping the batt off. Batt temps were 32 - 34 deg C hence its no wonder ADR was close to 10%.

This scenario forced me to revert to the tried & trusted best bet "RC-7B1 with Voda .714" and now at least can relax.

I have now been on the RC7B1 plus Large .714 .sfi for just over 2 weeks and it is still performing like a dream.

Already got that .sfi in a .746 base for the upcoming new release, although to be honest I just can't see how it can be any better that 7B1.

checking and checking on the thread, still...no news for RC8

Yet, I decided not to upgrade even RC8 is out. RC7B1 is unbelievable! Settling now at 1% ADR and minimum memory drain rate. Wonder if RC8 or whatever it will be called as, will outperform this!
Btw I have shrunk it till 72mb and is on Vodafone UK large sfi

100% in agreement. Super, super performance from the 9900 with this combo.

Am curious about one thing and think the answer will be no. Since 748 sfi is Rogers, I'm wondering if it would work with RC7B1.
I can't explain why my gut is a strong no, but it seems to me that you can't use an sfi from a "future" OS when all the COD's, etc are 714 or earlier.

That's one of the combinations that I haven't tried.. RC7B1 with 714 large sfi. Too many choices. Now running pure 746 for 6 days. It's ok and frankly, I don't really care about the LED feature of 746. I set it up but don't remember what colour is for what. LOL. I think I'm going to focus on eliminating apps to try to get better ADR and get performance closer to what's possible with the BL hybrids. I can't eliminate VVM which has the greatest impact but there are others that can go.

testing since 8 hours .746 base + large UK voda .714 SFI
-reception: is really similar of mix: base.714+large voda .714 sfi+rc7B1 so really great!
-temp :till now, also during large phone calls (15 mins approx) or long browsing sessions (20/30 mins) temp was never higher than 22/23 C (avg on standby is 18/19 C)
-ADR: looks promising....will keep you informed ( too close to call )
-memory: 4mb tot. after first check (8 hours) so great!

In my opinion I feel that .746 will be a great starting point for any hybrid to come....

Hello, I want to try .746 but with what sfi? Ppl say that the large .714 from Voda UK is a good one. But i'm living in the Netherlands, and vodafone Nl has also the .714 but it's the small one. So I dont know which one to use. The big one what everyone is talking about, or the small one that maybe is optimised for the network over here what will give me a beter batt life etc.????????

    Help me out pls

phew ... good to feel normal upon returning back to ( 7B1 + .714 ) after the stock .746 massacred my battery.

Barely 12 hrs upon install, performance already at its tops !!! Its a super hybrid

I can at least rest in peace knowing the phone wouldn't die halfway thru the day with this one !!
